For years, cigars are believed to be for the elite only. But things are changing. There are many online cigar stores coming up apart from the regular Brick and Mortar Stores that have since long been there. For ages now premium cigars, for instance the la finca cigars and the fonseca cigars were sold by tobacconists. And nowadays, cigar festivals are taking place regularly so that cigar fans can mingle with each other and share their cigar insight.
The Brew City Cigar Festival makes its debut from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Potawatomi Bingo Casino, 1721 W. Canal St. It's a chance to receive a swag bag of cigars, learn from experts, try new cigars with other enthusiasts and sample food and libation that complements the smokes.
The night will be filled with mini-seminars on cigar rolling, cigar and spirit pairings and wine tastings with a master sommelier. It's also an opportunity to meet a cigar roller from the Dominican Republic and purchase newly rolled cigars. There will also be photo opportunities with "cigar girls."
Organizers will sell raffle tickets, and all proceeds will go to Cigars for Warriors and Dryhootch.org, a Milwaukee-based charity supporting veterans and their families.
Ticket prices are $175 in advance and $195 at the door for a single entry. That includes a tote bag with premium cigars, unlimited food and liquor samples, live entertainment and seminars. VIP tickets are $225 (in advance only), and include additional perks such as early entry, open bar service, reserved seating and extra cigars.
Admission is $80 for a social ticket for non-smokers. The event will be held in the second floor Potawatomi Expo Center.
