Structure of a Cigar

Many of you must have bought a cigar from the cigar store and smoked it at some time or another. However, you may not be aware about the structure of a cigar. A cigar is divided into many useful portions both in depth and in length.

In terms of length a cigar is made up of the foot, body and cap. Let us look at each of these parts:

Cap: This is the loose part of tobacco that is spread over the top portion of the cigar by using natural glue. With this the wrapper will be averted from separating.

Body: The body is the most important component of a cigar.

Foot: The foot which is also known as Tuck is another end of a cigar which is used for lighting.

Again the body comprises three major divisions:

Filler: The filler is the center of a cigar and is made up of tobacco leaves. The filler used can be either short or long. The short filler is tobacco leaves that are cut into pieces and is mostly used in cigars that are made by machines. The long filler is consists of uncut tobacco leaves. Handmade cigars usually use long fillers and the finest cigars like the ashton cigars use long fillers.

Binder: This is the strong leaf that actually holds the wrapper and filler together.

Wrapper: This is the outside part. The appearance and feel of a cigar is influenced by the wrapper.

Now you have gained some insight on the anatomy of a cigar, you can buy one from a cigars shop.
